From January 2025, a new Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS) collection replaced the National Visitor Survey (NVS). The reasons are outlined on  Changes to the Australian resident tourism statistics collection in 2025.

March quarter 2025

The March quarter 2025 results mark the first release for DoTS overnight trips.

The DoTS results provide data on how Australian residents travel within Australia. You can find national, state and territory results for the:

  • number of trips taken
  • nights spent on a trip
  • amount spent on a trip.

Unless we say otherwise, we compared the summary results for the March quarter 2025 to the March quarter 2024.

Note: March Quarter 2024 results are backcast and adjusted to account for differences in methodology between the National Visitor Survey (NVS) and the new Domestic Tourism Statistics which came into effect January 2025. Caution should be used when interpreting comparisons to the backcast data.
