Notes on the data

  • An issue was found in the March and June quarter international visitor spend data. As a result, the March and June quarter publications have been amended since their initial release.
  • The IVS estimates now include the Philippines and Vietnam as separate markets (previously grouped in Other Asia). Please see the IVS survey methodology page for more detail.
  • Unless we say otherwise, we compared the summary results for:
    • the September quarter 2025 to the September quarter 2024
    • the year ending September 2025 to the year ending September 2024.
  • Spend is reported as spend in Australia. Spend in Australia is different to total spend. Total spend includes:
    • purchases made overseas such as international connections and stopovers, including airfares
    • other pre-travel or post-travel spend in the source market or elsewhere outside Australia on things like luggage, visas, duty-free retail and ground transport.
