Economic Value

The economic value of tourism to Australia’s economy is estimated using an internationally accepted framework – a tourism satellite account – which produces measures for tourism against gross domestic product, gross value added, trade, and employment.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics produces the estimates at a national level (with input from the International Visitor Survey and National Visitor Survey) and Tourism Research Australia produces the state and regional estimates.

The national TSA is compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) using an internationally accepted framework designed by the OECD and the UNWTO. For more information on the framework, see the ABS website.

More detailed tables can also be found on the ABS website.
